Seria i-7188EN to serwery urządzeń, konwertujące standard Ethernet na standard RS-232/485/422. Większość urządzeń RS-232/485/422 nie posiada portów sieciowych i dlatego stworzono urządzenia z serii i-7188EN, które pozwalają połączyć te urządzenia z siecią.
Ponadto urządzenia z serii i-7188EN mogą przypisać unikatowy adres sieciowy dowolnemu urządzeniu RS-232 zainstalowanemu w sieci Ethernet.
